The King of Pens are Sailor’s largest pens.  Some are turned from resins, and many are turned from ebonite.  The ebonite pens tend to be covered in layers of Urushi lacquer.

Each layer is painted on by hand and takes 2-3 weeks to dry.  The pen is then sanded with fine 2,000 grit sandpaper, and a new layer of Urushi is applied.  With 12 layers of lacquer, each pen takes months to make.  The nibs are made from 21 carat gold.  They are large and flexible, and write beautifully.
