The Shell Channel Pilot
There is a book for sailors called “The Shell Channel Pilot”. It details tide heights and harbours and ways into ports. It tells boat owners when lighthouses shine and it has pictures of the ports.
The Channel Pilot is a book of dreams, to read on trains on the way up to smokey London. It has quotes which talk of other worlds. Here is an example:
“Ruan creek is undeveloped, and a shoal-draught yacht could lie sweetly in the mud, undisturbed by much except the waterbirds”.
