THE LILAC SEASON

The lilac season is drawing to a close.  The lilac flowers are changing.  All that is left are the last remnants of their sweet scent.  To be taken in nose hungry gasps, in the final days before summer starts.  The heat has begun and now the scent is all the stronger.  Reminders of the May Fly season and of the first rose buds of the long summer.  The days now begin at 4am and stop at almost 10pm.  Still three weeks or more before the longest of the days.  The season has arrived, creeping up on life until the moment when, the sea invites salt feet to swim.
